Ashford Appoints New Superintendent of Schools

The Ashford Board of Education has voted to hire Dr. James P. Longo of Guilford, CT as its next Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Longo has accepted the offer, contingent upon mutual agreement of contract language. There were seventeen applicants for the position.

Dr. Longo was the only finalist recommended to the Board by the nine member Search Committee. Prior to his final interview with the Board, he spent several hours visiting the school and meeting with administration, faculty and staff.

Dr. Longo has been Assistant Superintendent and Principal for Franklin, CT public schools since 2001. Prior to that, he served as a central office administrator in Hartford, an assistant principal and district curriculum administrator in Stamford, and as district arts coordinator in West Haven.

He earned his Ph.D. and master’s degrees from Columbia University, Superintendent certification from the University of Connecticut, and a second master’s and bachelor of science degrees from Southern Connecticut State University.

The Board of Education is excited and looking forward to working with Dr. Longo. He will be starting in his new position in mid January.

Dr. Leonard Lanza has been serving as Ashford’s Interim Superintendent and Search Consultant since mid October.
